What is a "FanboyGeek"?
A FanboyGeek is a guy (funnily enough) who has a healthy (!) interest in all things film/TV/tech. He works in the media/tech industry/etc and knows the skinny on lots of cool insider stuff - and he loves to share it with his mates over a beer and a curry.
Who are the FanboyGeeks?
The FanboyGeeks are a group of London-based friends who meet up on the last Friday of the month to exchange insider news and gossip. There's around 30 of us, and around a dozen show up each month.
What do you need to be a fan of to be a FanboyGeek?
In no order: you're more creative and technical than most, you'll have been on Facebook since it began, you have your own domain name, you'll have an overly fancy mobile phone, chances are you have a Mac, you love Battlestar Galactica and you're bang up to date on it, you own at least one games machine, you're quite liberal on the subject of Bit-Torrenting, you support open-source and Creative Commons, you're quite out-spoken with you opinion on everything etc, etc
Where do the FanboyGeeks meet?
One month in the media-land of London's West End, the next month in the arty/new-media land of Shoreditch.
Is it really men-only?
Now now, don't get over excited. Yes, it's a boys night out, but the odd woman has been known to come along. But as several of us have very young families the whole thing is just an excuse to enjoy male company instead of our lives of nappies and bottle-feeding. So, don't be too hard on us for appearing to be sexist, we're just celebrating the near-autism of men and their techy obsessions.
Can I be a FanboyGeek?
Email us and reveal your geek cred. If we like the cut of your jib you'll be welcome to join in the fun.
What's the point of this blog?
Along with the Facebook Page it's a hub for the FanboyGeeks to share news and opinions outwith the monthly MeetUps. Mostly it's just Stuart venting his spleen.
