For the January 2008 MeetUp, FanboyGeek is delighted to be hosting the London Premier of the League of Noble Peers' "Steal This Film II"
How will the film industry's business models need to change in a future where piracy is rife and unpreventable? Will royalties and ownership become a thing of the past once every customer has the tools for digital replication?
This is a really important documentary documenting the movement against intellectual property, and the 'battles' between old and new modes of distribution. Its predecessor "Steal this Film" was a must-see film last year and was a major talking point at the British Documentary Festival.
The screening will be in the luxurious surroundings of the Rex Cinema in Soho's Rupert Street on Friday 18th January at 1930 sharp (meet in the Rex bar before). A moderated discussion will follow from 2030-2130 then we'll retire to a reserved area of the adjacent bar afterward for a no-doubt more animated discussion!
Being the premier, at least one of the film-makers has promised to come, and with some other interesting people from the world of IPR attending it will be a great opportunity to be involved in a discussion with people at the cutting edge of the debate.
As there are only 75 seats, and demand *will* be very high, the FG committee will have to work out a fair method of allocation. If you *really* want to come or think you have a strong case for a seat then email me and say so and we'll prioritise you, else it's first-asked-first-given.
See you there.
